Flexible Mica
Flexible MICA is a micanite entirely free of asbestos, which can be formed at room temperature.
The material consists of micapaper impregnated with a heat resistant binder and polymerized by a heat
treatment.
The micapaper used for producing flexible mica can either be mucsovite or phlogopite.
The characteristics of these two materials are quite different. In fact, the most appropriate
type of mica has to be chosen in order to obtain an optimum result in each application. Muscovite
is harder, clearer in color and has a lower heat stability compared to phlogopite.
Properties
Retain intrinsic property up to 500 degrees C for Muscovite
Retain intrinsic property up to 700 degrees C for Phlogopite
Heat resistance is 800 degrees C and 1000 degrees C in intermittent service
