X, XP, XPC Paper Phenolic
X Paper Phenolic is a paper-based high pressure laminate. It has the highest mechanical
strength of the paper-based phenolic group, however, it is not
equal to fabric-based grades in impact strength. It is primarily
intended for mechanical application where electrical properties
are of secondary importance. Discretion should be used in applications
where high-humidity and moisture are encountered.
X Paper Phenolic fabricates well but punching of this product should be limited
to thicknesses of .046" and thinner.
Related grades in this group are XP and XPC which have similar properties but are designed primarily for
punching operations. XP is primarily for hot punching, and when heated between 120 and
140 degrees C., sheets up to .062" and thinner may be punched
cold. XPC is more flexible and has a higher cold flow but is lower
in flexural strength than XP. XP is primarily for cold punching and shearing with sheets up to
.125" punchable at room temperature.
