Hydlar ZF - Nylon/Kevlar
Hydlar ZF is a relatively new plastic. It was first formulated by the scientists at A.L. Hyde Company
in 1984. Hydlar ZF is Kevlar fiber reinforced Nylon 6/6. With the addition of Kevlar, Hydlar ZF's properties
improve, better dimensional stability is achieved and wear resistance is increased ten times that of unfilled nylon.
Hydlar ZF can be machined by conventional methods using the same standard tools used to machine unfilled
Nylon 6/6. When compared to nylons which have been filled with glass to achieve similar strength and temperature resistance,
Hydlar ZF is far less abrasive and easier to machine. Because of its lower water absorption and stability, close tolerances
can be machined with this product without fear of dimensional change after machining.
The FDA has not approved Hydlar ZF. While lower in cost than many high temperature thermoplastics, Hydlar ZF
can be more costly than glass filed or unfilled Nylon 6/6.
