Ryton - Polyphenyl Sulfide

Ryton, polyphenyl sulfide, unmodified or modified with glass fibers or other modifiers such as PTFE, MoS or graphite are used primarily structural components. Characteristics are high stiffness, extremely high use temperature (up to 600 degrees F), excellent chemical resistance, and excellent electrical properties.

In both modified and unmodified forms, Ryton exhibits excellent machinability, with optical finishes possible by grinding and lapping.

The superior friction and wear properties of Ryton make it ideally suited for bearing applications in lubricated or non-lubricated service. Their excellent thermal and chemical resistance properties also make Ryton very suitable in high temperature and corrosive environments.

Properties

High lubricity

No creep like PTFE

Do not hydrolize like polyimides

Not fragile (as is pressed carbon)

Low moisture absorption or swelling

Excellent thermal properties

Excellent chemical resistance
